Through this conference, students seek to foster a greater understanding by their peers of varied Trinity experiences, including issues related to: living with mental illness, transitioning and gender identity, reproductive health, racism, sexism, drugs and alcohol, the media, and the extent of sexual misconduct.

Session I

10:05-11:05 (Terrace C) –  The Importance of Free Press to a Civilized Society

Presenters: Brendan W. Clark ’21, Ben Gambuzza ’20, Gillian Reinhard ’20, and Amanda Lafferty ’21.

Overview: What role does the media play and how does it influence, direct, and contribute to social and political change? What does the perceived denigration of the media mean for how we receive and use information? In this panel session, four individuals intimately involved in the publication of Trinity College’s student-run newspaper The Trinity Tripod offer their opinions on the state of the media and the critical role it continues to play in our daily lives and how the paper stands as an advocate for truth and justice in a civil society.

10:05-11:05 (Terrace B)- Understanding Reproductive Health and Reproductive Choice- Presenters: Claire Pritchard ’20 and Damon Gibbs, Youth Development Coordinator and Educator at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, Inc.

Session III

11:05-12:05 (Rittenberg Lounge)- Addressing Trans-Identity at Trinity and Beyond-Presenters: Lori Puopolo, ’18, Nat Bush ’19, Justin Martin ’19 and Rosa Lee Klaneski

Overview: A conversation on trans-identity including daily struggles as a student and in the work place.

12:35-1:35-(Rittenberg Lounge) American Studies Thesis- The Longest Walk: Rape, Drugs, and Racial Aggression at Trinity College.”

Presenter: Chiara Davis ’17

Overview: Advised by Davarian Baldwin, Chiarra demonstrates how these three situations intersect and offers recommendations to address them.

Session V

1:40-2:40 (Terrace C) Mental Health-Breaking the Stigma

Presenter: Lydia Velez Herrera

Overview: Owner of LillySinBarreras LLC, Lydia spoke at Trinity last fall at WGRAC’s invitation. Recently she conducted a training for P.R.I.D.E Leaders at the invitation of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Her organization assists people dealing with barriers to receiving adequate mental health care, and helps people overcome internalized shame imposed by societal ignorance.
